Should Have Gone to SpecSavers .....

By GillyB
While following the little Goldcrest around the garden an even smaller Orange Tip butterfly settled within range. Not sure why she landed on this, could it be for camouflage or may be it thought it was another butterfly??

Completely the wrong lens for this subject but the one on the camera is better than the one in the cupboard.

So the Orange Tip .......the male and female of this species are very different in appearance. The more-conspicuous male has orange tips to the forewings, that give this butterfly its name. These orange tips are absent in the female and the female is often mistaken for one of the other whites, especially the Green-veined White or Small White.

Many thanks to Bob, John, Steve and Alan for their much valued awards on my little Goldcrest and for all the c's and v's....and as always for taking the time to look at this one.

Great photo so perhaps having the wrong lens for subject inadvertently proved a bonus here: how well the subject and it's perch show up against the OOF background.

Superb image Gill SmileSmile
Have to say though, having just got hold a Mk2 100-400 I think it'll be an excellent lens choice for butterflies this summer.Wink

BTW Canonrebecca22 is now the very proud owner of my old 100-400 - she's like the cat that got the cream Tongue

I agree Andy, I would never have managed this with my macro lens, this one was high up in a tree with a stream and fence between me and it. Fortunately there was a high point for me to get level and the lens did the rest Smile
