In need of a paint job

By gjfereday
I was just messing about with Filters in Elements and gave this a postcard finish. Let me know what you think, I don't get offended so if you think its pants say so, but tell me why.

Filters are there in Elements to be used so don't worry about that. In fact I quite like this, brightly coloured boats make for good pictures.

I was naturally tempted to 'have a go' with this because my personal opinion is that some of the on-board bits and pieces could usefully be removed like artistic licence. So I Have removed the mast, part of the cabin, a bit of the other side of the baot and the crane derrik. Anyway see what you think.

Hi Graham,

This hasn't turned out bad for a PS filter but be wary, they aren't seen as a good effect by most people yet we all try them now and again. Your picture is very good, you've gotten in nice and close and I partly agree with Frank about the Derrick but I would have left the mast, just personal preference I guess. I would like to see the original image without the filter, maybe you could upload it as a version?

I like the effect of that filter on the boat, Graham. It looks a lot like the posterizing effect in my PaintshopPro.
Thanks for uploading the original, seeing the transformation really helps. The filter has brought out so much detail, and even the sea looks good.
I see that you have a bit more space at the top in your original, and would have liked you to keep that in because the "crane thingy" is a bit close to the top frame. Also, the red line on the boat has a nice S-shape, which is lost because you cropped the bottom too.
The boat has a lovely wavey shape and strong colours, I like the image, but then I do like boatsGrin.
I wonder if you tried any other angles on this. By moving a little to the left, you'd have managed to get a touch more of the other side in the front, creating another nice shape and giving the whole thing a bit more of an angle.
