My Treasure Island

By glazzaro
Good Evening

Ok something a little different! The wife and finally convinced our daughter to pose for us. Of course with her there are always conditions, first and for most we had to let her pose the way she wanted! Ok, so we struck deal with her and took some shots. Had a lot of fun, my daughter is really a goof! Any ways for the first 100 or so shots she just sat there reading her book “Treasure Island”, ergo my title. She did warm up after awhile and we got some good shots. I had a blast and it gave me good practice. Will talk to you all soon! I will see you all out on the site.

Greg

My setup when shooting:

1. Setup canvas back drop.
2. Used two studio lamps; bulb was rated as day lamp.
3. Used a studio seat.
4. Shots were taken free hand to keep up with any unexpected activity.
5. Fired off several shots each time, checked the results and then fire off some more.

Love this shot. A very good natural pose, and it has to be said. " Listen to her, she knows what she's doing". Great stuff Greg, and a wonderful daughter.

Great shot, Greg. Let's see if you can train her to pose as you do with the birds. Anyway, I think it will take quite longer. LOL

'Feigned indifference' was the phrase that came to mind. A lovely shot Greg - and her props have just added to it.

Sorry to be a dissenting voice here, but the creased backdrop really does this shot no favours. Perhaps if she wasn't so close you could have knocked the background out of focus with the lens open at 2.8, but as it is it just looks messy, in my opinion.
I'm sure with a bit more willingness from your daughter to model for you, you'll get some memorable shots.

I like this Greg, a lovely honest portrait. She looks to be very pretty with long slender fingers - I would try to work those into a comp. Anyway I'm sure you've got stacks more great shots, can't wait to see. Smile

Superb to see some family in the portfolio Greg! I remember years ago my ex had all my daughters friends over to model cloths. What a hoot! Get her to invite her friends over and tell them to bring costumes. You'll have a riot!

Gotta agree about the backdrop creases. A little trick I learned from my sig other, throw it in the dryer with a damp face cloth for awhile. Often knocks the worst of the creases out and is easier than ironing!

IMO what makes this a excellent shot is that your daughter is so natural in front of the lens, she looks relaxed and totally unconcerned about what is going on.

Hello Greg.
A Treasure she is.! Not easy for her with some old fashion, parents. Maybe birds will sit still for you, but youngsters are on the move all the time.!
But you fast shutter speed gave a good result at least. lol
