BlueJay

By glazzaro
Good Morning

Well we did not make it out to Bombay hook last night, the weather kept threatening rain, then would clear up, and then get cloudy again, so we said the heck with it and just took shots from our deck. Got several shots of birds, they were quite in abundance.

So normally I don't take shots of birds on feeders, usually I place the feeders near branches so as to catch them in the limbs. However I took this shot of a Bluejay hanging from the feeder in order to set my camera settings. When I got back in and started looking at the shots I was surprised at this one. I really liked the overall comp. Could end up being a flop but oh well, I like it. I did get some nice full shots in the trees, but the wife posted one of her own so I decided to wait and show those later. Let me know what you think, does it have appeal or should I stick to the full natural shots?

You all have a great weekend and I will talk to you later.

Greg

The colour blues on that Bluejay are amazing! They make my gardens family of Robins look very dull. Excellent capture.

I have to admit that I prefer ther natural shots but this one just had to be seen, such striking colours. He couldn't have posed better, full on back feather detail and head turned, great.

I like it as well Greg, top shot of a bird that doesn't appear much on this site (or not that I've seen anyway).

I think what makes this better than most"bird at feeder" shots is that you managed to get a good eye contact, that catch light in the eye and a very nice composition going with the inclusion of the tree leaves and the angle the bird is at too. not to mention that beautiful feather detail. I like it.

This image allows one to gauge the size of this larger bird-- Details of feathers, catchlight, tail and wings all very apparent and well done--
Feeder is clean and no distractions -- I'd say this will pass muster!
