The Wait

By glazzaro
Good Evening

Well another weekend draws close and I am ready! I have got to get out before I go stir crazy. Suppose to rain all day Friday but Saturday is suppose to be good, so hoping to head out to the Nature Reserve. The only thing in my yard to shoot at the present is Woodpeckers, so that is what I am posting. I have shot so many of these guys I am starting to name them, this one is named Peter Whoops , just seemed appropriate. So keep your fingers crossed and hopefully I will have something new for you all on Saturday, if not I might be forced to do landscapes… Have a great weekend and see you out on the site.

Greg

My setup when shooting:

1. This was shot at high noon, around 12:00 pm. Skies were clear and it was cold.
2. I used a tripod.
3. Setup the branch, loaded peanut butter and seed on the backside.
4. Used the Nikon 70-200mm lens with 1.7 TC for 340mm range, turned off the VR.
5. Went inside my new smaller hide, this one is less intrusive.
7. Kept adjusting the Shutter Speed and Aperture to compensate.

Camera Settings:

Location: Middletown, Delaware (Backyard)
Special Equipment: N/A
Processing: Saturation and contrast.
Weather: Clear Skies.
Tripod : Yes
Camera: Nikon D2X

Two excellent shots from you both today, I'm off chasing woodpeckers myself this morning and if I get a shot as good as this Greg I'll be more than happy. However I think Cesie's recent upload just beats this a tad, but being a butterfly nut as you know, you'd expect me to say that I guess....LOL

Hi Greg,Woody's absolutly cracking, love the downy back of the neck, the detail,lighting,colour/tones and exposure and now i have seen this one i don't think that the ones that i took about 1 year ago were wonky,i thought because there was the downy bit at the back of the neck and the ones i had looked scrawny they were rotten so i binned them as the other ones looked not bad but like the pictures i had seen of woodpeckers.I'll know in future.lol.Thanks.Take care.AnnSmile

And here I was thinking you found this guy in Cabelas. I find birds a lot easier to shoot with my little 3x zoom when they're stuffed and mounted...

Beauty!
