Lapwing

By Maiwand
The Lapwing (vanellus vanellus)
One of my all time favourite birds. I love the beautiful iridescent colours of the plumage and the very attractive crest on the head. Will be seen as possibly a lone bird or often in great flocks. Sadly numbers are suggested to be declining of late.
Hope you will enjoy looking.
Many thanks for the generous attention given to the Jay and particular thanks to Sylvis (toecali) Dave (johnjoe 58) joline and Phil ( phillip H)
Apologies for missing any of your recent shots but I have been away for a break for the past week. Will catch up as soon as I can.
Ron

One of the best images of a Lapwing that I ever seen on epz,
very well done. Apart from catching the plumage to perfection the
eye has a great glassy look and a superb catch light. Top marks.

A grand capture of this lovely bird Ron. At the moment the large flocks of migrant lapwings have arrived on the Somerset levels for the winter. The resident lapwings are also around but impossible to distinguish at this time. Unfortunately most of my 'viewing' areas are underwater from the floods! A

A really beautiful bird seen close up. These used to be very common around Harbridge and Ibsley along the Avon river, now, sadly, they are difficult to find and the flocks are smaller too. An excellent photo though.
