Ol' Man Emu

By goso
Taken last year near Hay NSW - these blokes are very inquisitive, and if you sit still in the bush, they will slowly approach and watch from behind a tree or such (bloody "stickybeaks"). If driving in the bush they are often seen "pacing" a car, and I think they can reach speeds of about 40 mph. They can also be very dangerous to humans if they are cornered or feel threatened - their feet have formidable claws. They can stand over 6' tall.

He's definitely a mean looking customer Bill, if you snapped him from close range you are a brave man! TV chatshow host Michael Parkinson can testify to the danger these birds pose, he was attacked by Emu live on national television. You may be able to watch what happened if you search for it on youtube!
