Cormorant

By GrahamBaines
Snapped this chap while he was looking for his dinner on Ulverston Canal on Sunday.

(Now there's an immutable law of physics, which stands somewhere between Heisenberg's Principle of Indeterminacy and Schrödinger’s Cat, which states that no matter which lens you have on your camera, it's always the wrong one!! So I had to digitally zoom quite a long way in Photoshop to get this one).

Is it a Double Breasted Cormorant?

Thanks for looking.

Graham

Lovely , the digital zoom has worked very well as there is great clarity in that dark plumage , great eye detail and love the reflections in the water.

V1 is a beautiful portrait of a Cindarella bird, plus an extremely good advertisement for Canon. (Typed between gritted teeth by a life-long Nikon user...)

Well spotted Graham. Quite hard to see it against the BG. Your crop and close up has produced one of the best Cormorant shots I have seen on the site.

Shows the inherent quality of the 5D2 sensor.
Nice to see the wider view and surrounding environment in any case, as it's quite built up.

agreed without question, if you used PS to digitally zoom I dont follow what you mean, am I being thick? can you pleaase explain as some of my shots are distant but when cropped you lose definition

You've got it in one Ann, I just cropped it, which has the same effect as zooming in. The reason I didn't loose a lot of definition is that the Canon 5d Mk 2 has a 21.5 MP sensor so the images are about 29Mb each, which leaves plenty of room for cropping without losing too much definition, (but you can turn down the image size if you want to).
