This is a pedal Rickshaw driver from New Delhi, he has nerves of steel and the reflexes of a Bengal Tiger, at least he must have to have survived the daily traffic in Delhi to the ripe old age he has, (he's approaching his 19th birthday....Joke). From what I could observe the traffic in Delhi appears to work something like this...
There are nominally 2 lanes on a road, one going and one coming back, however.... I say nominally because if there's room on the other side of the road then it's okay to use that, so long as you avoid the other cars, tuk-tuks, motor bikes, pedal bikes, and pedestrians coming directly towards you, oh... I forgot to mention the cows. Now the cows have special dispensation being holy animals, and can roam, lie or sleep anywhere (in the middle of the road on major roundabouts is a particular favourite), and if you hit them then you're in deep trouble.
Now, there are traffic signals too, lights, zebra crossings, give way signs at junctions and things... but these of course are optional, unless there's a bad tempered looking policeman with a large stick (which they appear to have no compunction about using) managing the traffic. When this happens you have to avoid being beaten with the stick, oh... and the cows have right of way over the police too... Once you get the hang of it it's pretty straight forward really :-/
I wonder if anyone has thought of writing a computer game…..???
Thanks for looking
(For those wondering about the hair dye, I'm told it's Henna and is often worn by Hindu Men, this gent is wearing it on his face too, at first I thought it was a bit of bad photoshopping on my part, but the original is the same).
