Horse Fly (Haematopota crassicornis)

Not one of my favorite insects by a long shot but they do have beautifuly coloured eyes. While i was crawling about in the undergrowth trying to get close enough for this shot another horse fly bit me on the back of my leg through my trousers, damned well hurt too Sad

Cracking macro image and square to the best effect. The detail is first class. As you say they certainly hurt. Hows the leg?
