Herring Gull

By grinningsoul2011
Went to Bempton Cliffs to photograph, Gannets, Guillemots, Razor bills and Puffins. However by far the best photo I came away with was one of this Herring Gull that flew along the top of the cliffs at eye level!!!

Just goes to show you may have in mind what you want to photograph but the wonder of wildlife is you never know what images you will come back with.Smile

Good capture, as you say, the unpredictability of nature is always a challenge and a delight

Super shot. I agree with previous comment - I've been trying to get in-flight shots of Gulls all weekend. I didn't achieve your focus and clarity.
Thanks Mike, just keep shooting thats the beauty of digital you can blast awaySmile Looking forward to seeing your flight shot when you get it.

Ah Bempton Cliffs one of my favourite places.... Fantastic in flight action shot well done.... Regards Paul.
Paul thank you.

There is a book I think you will be really interested in the title is "SEABIRD CITY" by Richard Vaughan. It is all about the seabirds that nest from Flamborough up to Bempton. It gives information on when different birds breed, when they have their egss, and a whole host of other information. There is a chapter on the yearly cycle of the colony so its great for deciding the best time to visit if you want to see a particular activity or photograph a particular bird. I recently recommended to someone else who told me it was out of print but they managed to get a copy by searching on the internet. I got my copy from the RSPB Shop at Bempton last year.
