Sligachan Bridge

By WeeGeordieLass
Legend has it that if you dip your face in the river water by the Sligachan Bridge, you will be granted eternal beauty - well all I can say is.....it didn't work for me!!!

The movement of the clouds flowing over the top of the mountain and the smooth, silky looking water were enhanced with a black & white conversion.

The colour version just didn't cut it.

Tip...if you feel like having a go at obtaining eternal beauty on your visit to Sligachan on the Isle of Sky, just bear in mind that the water is positively Arctic!!

Hope you enjoy looking at the scene as much as I did capturing it.

Thanks for looking

This brings back so many memories. We went on a camping holiday in Skye in 1976, with three bachelor friends. The choice was between staying on the camp site at Fairy Glen, with reasonable facilities but no bar; and staying on the field by the bridge, just below the pub, where there was a stand pipe for water and toilets available during opening hours (which admittedly amounted to best part of 24 hours...) Guess which option the lads went for..
There's a photo somewhere of me washing my hair in the river by the bridge, this brings back how b***** cold the water was!

Hello Everyone,

What a wonderful surprise when I got home from work to see such interest and appreciation in my shot of Sligachan Bridge, on the Isle of Skye.

Adam (Sherlob), thank you so much for the Guest Editor Award – this is the first time I’ve received this kind of award and I really appreciate it. It’s very encouraging for me.

Robert (ossca), Moira (mrswoolybil), Tom (dukes_jewel), Steven (sjcphotography), Neville (nevJB), Bill (richmowil), Phil (Mex), Robert (RobboB), Guy (Drummerdelight), David (DavidLaverty), Eddie (Kilmas), Fabio (FabioKeiner)…………thank you everyone, you’re User Awards are very gratefully received.

Moira…I would choose the stand pipe too!! I’m glad my shot brought back some memories.

Peter…LOL, the water was too cold even for a little pinkie!

Neville…the clouds looked ok in the colour version, but when I converted to b&w they really popped.

Bill (richmowil)…thanks, I’m glad you like the comp. I remember getting quite cold as it was taking me
ages to set the shot up and settle on a composition I liked.

Bill (Rookery)…eternal beauty didn’t work for me either LOL

Trev…I’m glad you like the mono conversion.

Sangram…Thank You.

Robert (RobboB)…I love those wonderful Scottish clouds

David (DavidLaverty)…thanks for your kind comment

Fabio…that’s a lovely thing for you to say – thank you

David (DavesWork)…thanks for your compliment on the comp and conversion
