Boat House

By guzman
My first attempt at using infer red filter and am quite pleased with the results, a very steep learning curve ahead.

This was shot on a very fine and sunny day with the signs of spring starting to blossom, and was at an garden estate that is also the National Museum of Gardening in the UK

Trevarno Estate and Gardens is a very special part of Cornwall. Set in a valley, 2 miles outside Helston, these wonderful Victorian and Georgian gardens are a plantsmans paradise, featuring an extensive collection of trees, shrubs and exotic plants. Notable features are the Serpentine Yew Tunnel and Victorian Boathouse amongst others.

Beautiful. The IR effect is fabulous and the reflections are like polished glass.

Great pic but i think the left hand bottom corner lets it down by being a bit too dark..

A super picture, it really shows off what IR is all about. I must try this myself now that I've seen this.

I agree with gooses, but must admit the effect is interesting and it is a dramatic picture.

Nice IR effect - I agree about the left hand corner and there's something just protruding bottom right hand side that could do with cropping off but that's just me being hyper picky 'cos I'm jealous

Nice shot, love the tones, particularly in the reflection. The dark band that runs through the bottom left corner is a bit heavy. Although had it continued right through the bottom of the shot in the sweep that seems to be suggested by the line in the bottom right, it may, along with the tree that is just out of shot on the left, have provided a nice frame. It would also have been nice to have seen the full height of the tree across the lake and these would have provided a nice balance to the aforementioned frame.

If this sounds like heavy criticism, it's not meant to be-please feel free to completely ignore it, I'll still like the shot! Wink

Very nice indeed. I would have liked to see the tree tops, and the dark object on the far right is a distraction.

I've been considering getting the R72 filter for my S602. Can you tell us what aperture / shutter sped you used here? I'm looking forward to seeing more of your results.

Thanks to everybody on your positive comments
and yes to Chris and others about it not being completely with out fault, more work in post processing would clean it a little some all comments are still truly gratefully received

Tony for you and others, this shot was taken at 3.6 aperture and 3 seconds exposure / I did take more than 30 shots at different setting, as experimentation is needed with this type of photography

glad you all enjoyed it
cheers roland

This is a great demonstration of the art of IR. I agree that a crop to the left to lose the black area and a sliver off the right to lose the intrusion would improve the shot. But it works nonetheless for me.
