Early morning, looking down at Macchu Picchu from the Inca Trail in the mist. My favorite way of seeing Macchu Picchu. Bright sunlight seems to show too much, and this is a place of mystery that fog and mists seem to best represent. The Spanish, when they conquered Inca Peru, never found Macchu Picchu. As we were traveling on the bus going up switchback after switchback from Agauas Caliente to Macchu Picchu (about a thousand vertical feet), I remember pinching myself----that I was about to experience this place of legend and awe. And, it did not disappoint.
