Sailing on a Day of Dramatic Skies

By handlerstudio
Back from my craft show in Massachusetts.....second in two weekends. I have this weekend off, then another the last weekend of October in New York City.

And, back to our Chesapeake Bay sailing trip of a few weeks ago. The first day out was a day of brilliant, beautiful clouds and sky. All day long and into sunset. This set of three photos were taken within about 20 minutes of each other. I will admit to using some of the filters available on my Oly OM-D, something I rarely do but could not resist on such a dramatic looking day.

I'd love to know if this involved more than burning it - it looks almsot as if the clouds in the centre have been dropped in! I thnk that's not yoru style, though, so I rather suspect that it really did look like this!

John, with the very intense clouds already there, I used the Vivid setting on my OM -D

A little exaggeration and emphasis to reflect what you perceived when you shot the frame has always been part of good photographic practice.

There's a wonderful hymn, translated from Russian, which begins:

O LORD my God! When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works Thy hand hath made;
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy pow’r throughout the universe displayed:

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

((c) 1953 Stuart K Hine)

Some pictures capture that feeling, and this is one of them.
Thank you for that poem John, I am touched.

The poem says "awesome wonder" to describe perfectly the skies of these captures.
