Winter 2014 #4

By handlerstudio
After an earlier storm, I was driving, and saw a few trees that still had branches snow covered. Stopped at a light, I was able to get off this shot, and then thought to do some modifications. The image is almost binary in its tone quality anyway, so I cropped a bit, and goosed the contrast, and reduced the tonal range, but left the color.....then took that and made it b&w, which is kind of what I think it wanted to be anyway.

I hope this series is bringing a sense of some of the beauty of winter to those who do not have the good fortune to live with it.

We just got back from a play, and I need to get up early tomorrow for a retreat weekend of my Men's Group, so I will not be able, to my regret, to look at a lot of photos tonight. My apologies. Back Sunday night.

I like the abstract nature of these. They say so much about the winter even thoughthey are just snow covered branches.
V1 is on the flat side tonally and this can be seen on the histogram too, but it looks like you've sorted that in V2 Smile
However, V3 is my favourite as it is brighter with punchier contrast. Interesting how the 'full colour' V2 is almost mono in itself.

I am thinking, Peter, what a mess, but that aside (we have the same mess) the images, especially v1 tell most of the story well----- V3 is much prettier and pleasing to the eye!

melting with a wet cold, after another 3 inches over night-- the plow finally came by but we have cozen to stay in!
