Fantastic shot of this rare and elusive bird - may I ask was this taken in the winter or resently - just asking because the colour and especially eye ring is much more pronounced than I remember - hoop your foot get sorted soon - Ina

Luke, sorry to hear about your foot, hope you get well soon. The clarity is really great.

I had a little play with your photo as, in my opinion, the bird is lost a little against the dark background. I did a very simple colour substitution of the background for a slight lighter one and the bird stood out wonderfully. Just a thought.

Excellent shot and a good job in holding plenty of detail in the birds dark plumage and also the pale coloured gorse perch.
