Hi Harry,

I usually offer some advice on images and techniques but I'm really sorry I feel that the effect that you've applied doesn't really do anything for the original image and i find it difficult to critique what has been masked by a PS filter. I think that looking at the image I would much prefer to see it as a colour image in its own right as the red berries and that brown bent grass would be very pleasing. Also you should have sorted out the distracting background objects before applying the filter such as the yellow blob and bright stalks.

Please upload the original and I will be able to offer better comments.

As stated above just what you did to achieve the image is not detailed.
I like the picture, it reminds me of Christmas for some reason. It is attractive, colourful and just about abstract.
Some will love it, I would guess a lot of photographer will not as the composition follows few rules.
A lovely, bright attractive image, my wife just said "it's nice, reminds me of a Christmas Card".

Hello Friends,
First of all my apology for not up loading the original to see the b4 and after as well as some discription (to be honest that was because of my English!! (sorry Frank) yes I can hardly explain by writing).
I am sorry Dave but when you say.." I think that looking at the image I would much prefer to see it as a colour image in its own right as the red berries and that brown bent grass would be very pleasing." you lost me here.

However, actually this was a demand as well as request from my wife! she wanted to change 3 pictures she have in her utility room, So, we picked 3 images and this was one of them. She did not wanted picture as picture and not exactly obstract !!
so, what I did is I applied Topaz clean filter on this image as well as part of Topaz Cartoon filter and left some original details of it in the the berries, which may look like obstract or may be painterly effect!.... believe me or not Ian, I totally agree that it reminds Christmas but the main thing is that she liked it! and tell you the truth I liked it too! I am the guy who like freedom! by means I sometime don't follow rules but please my self, (that does not mean that photography does not have any rules! or even it dosen't mean that I don't follow them at all!).

I hope I have explained in right manner! Regardless, I really appreciate your time and comments, as it always helps me in every sense!
Kind regards. Harry.

Hello, Harry. Maybe this is a "woman thing" because I quite like it, and I think the important thing is that your wife does, too. The effect of the filter is quite pleasing, but I think I would have tried to sort out the background first because the filter has enhanced its detail, which is quite fussy. I feel that it looks like a painting now, and I think that, if it were a painting, the artist would certainly have considered his background more. I think there is a nice picture to be gleaned from the original, but I don't think you are interested in an "ordinary" image in this case.

Hi Pam,

I think I agree with you there, I should have sorted the background first.... well that is why I am here!! so that some one can point out something I missed out!, I thank you for that. Harry.
