Dormouse (torpid)

NB: I hold a Natural England licence for this species.

This summer I think many of us have felt like this! Dormice go into torpor to conserve energy when the weather is bad and so far this year while monitoring I haven't found one awake - not that I find many in my boxes anywaY.

Incidentally they never actually sleep in this position but are usually on their side - more photogenic this way.

Taken on the Malvern Hills.
