Orange Hawkweed
Thanks for your comments.
Dave . (Hieracium aurantiacum) This hawkweeed originated in the alpine meadows of European mountains but has now become extensively naturalised in lowland areas and can in some cases become an aggressive weed. Some people have grown it in their rock gardens . This one was growing wild on the Cardoness Estate in Dumfries & Galloway amongst the grasses and other wildflowers. It is also known as "Grim the Collier" and "Fox-and-cubs".
Magda - You are so lucky to have this growing in your garden, it is totally absent from where we live.
Su@leesia - It's also a lot smaller than a sunflower, as it is only about 2 cm across.
