Rock rose

By HelenHiggs
We moved to Portugal in the middle of last autumn's chaos of Covid restrictions. Lockdown stopped us exploring too much but there were plenty of walks on the hill above our new home. In the beginning I came to dislike the monotony of the eucalyptus trees but as spring arrived the woods burst into life. The canopy lets in plenty of light for the native plants. These rock roses were everywhere, with flowers at least 10cm across. They shared the space with early heather and, although they have all but finished now, their small cousins are putting forth candy pink flowers. I will try to capture them as well.
