Welcome to my portfolio.

I joined this site in June 2007 and have gained so much from being here - advice, challenge and a supportive community when moving out of my comfort zone and stretching my skills.
I take most of my pictures in my locality in South Birmingham, and I digitally manipulate many of them - adding textures and combining images.
I see images in the most ordinary of places and love the effects of shadows, reflections and the weather. I hope you enjoy looking at some of my images, and that in so doing you begin to notice things that you hadn't seen before in the world around you Smile

Thanks for looking Smile

I start my working week on a Monday afternoon, so the mornings feel a bit like a holiday.
I get time then to catch up with things at a leasurely pace as I'm still in weekend "mode".
This morning that has meant sorting through more things from my Mum and Dad's home, now we have emptied it to put it on the market.

I've been going through Mum's table cloths, napkins and chairbacks etc. I found some that I embroidered as a child. When I was in Sunday School as a child, we would be given such things to make to sell at the Christmas Bazaar. Inevitably parents bought what their children had sewn, so I expect it was a good tactit. I've also got cloths that belonged to my grandmother too.
Its funny that the next generation don't value these things in the same way. Joy doesn't even use a tablecloth....................she so much more practical than I am. But somehow for me a table isn't set without one..........inspite of the inevitable ironing.

I wonder as I sort through Mum's things and linger over the memories if my children will do the same when I peg it. Somehow I can see them slinging them!! So for now the memories are with me and I will enjoy them.

Hi Helen, it is lovely to have a photo of you..now I know what you look like ! Smile
Lovely to hear from you..I still can't decide where to put answers or replies to blogs but thought you would be more likely to see this on yours !
It is terrible weather here..pouring with rain and the wind is howling. Terry and I do try to get out as much as we can and there are so many beautiful places to go to around here..we are so lucky. We hadn't been to Kencarrow Gardens before , it was such a lovely surprise.
Now I must get on with some planning. I am on supply for PPA all day tomorrow ..loads to do but the summer holidays are nearly here !
Speak to you again soon. Smile

Also doing PPA tomorrow morning.............. in the nursery- which I absolutely love, but which gives my knees a real knocking every week. I had my lesson observation there last Thurs for PM and so with that out of the way I will enjoy tomorrow so much more.
Funny how after I don't know how many years I still dread observations!!
Have a good day

I would rather be in a nursery than teaching division to 7-9 year olds!
When I get down on the floor I get the children to haul me up if I have been down there for too long !
I loathe lesson observations too..you would think after 38 years of teaching I would rise above it all but it is a case of the jitters every time.
Getting late, so bed now..you enjoy tomorrow too Smile

Hi Helen - I remember being very upset sorting my step-mother's photos, especially the fact that her son in New Zealand, when he came over, didn't want them. We decided to make both boys an album of their childhood pictures - holidays, hobbies etc - and gave the eldest his at his wedding (same for Michael next year).

My mum is still with us, but I do dread the clearing out that will inevitably come ... thoughts are with you, so many memories. Feel very lucky I'm in secondary school, and not actually teaching - love being on the peripheral as a clerical assistant - always wished I'd taken it up though (now far, far too late). But roll on the end of July ...
