Empty promises

By helenlinda
A friend of mine has a son who is an alcoholic. He went dry for 2 years, but started drinking again - just one at a function, and definitely feeling he was in control of how much he was drinking. It would help him cope better. It was not long before he needed to increase the amount he drank to maintain that feeling, and so it goes on, needing more and needing it more often.
I've put the bottle with the appealing sparkle away from the muddle - as this is what first attracts. However after a while it is blurred with the empty and the reduced impact bottles. I hope you follow my drift.
Thanks for looking
Helen

Indeed I follow all too easily my father died at the age of 48 due to alcoholism and it is a subject close to my heart... a well composed and presented image the thoughts come across so well..... I do hope he "sees" sense and gets dry again ! Colin

Such a graphic image - who would believe that something so visually pleasing could have such in depth meaning. Your poor friend - the poor young man - I grew up with an alcoholic in my immediate family - it is so difficult. I wish them both the best in dealing with their respective pain and needs. Sue

Thanks for all your comments - I'm glad you can see the meaning behind the image. I'm aware that many people know all too well the distress a person addicted to alcohol experiences AND their families and close friends - quite an isolated experience, and not always as straightforward to deal with on the inside as it seems from the outside

You have certainly used your artistic ability to great advantage for this. It is such a visual portrayal of the situation. Thankfully one I have never experienced first hand, but one which touches so many lives. This should be made into a poster for AA meetings, it is visually lyrical!

It is a strong message and one that works well with your description but beyond that it is simply a beautiful image in its own right with enormous visual appeal and a quirky artistic balance.
Just a little nip for me please, to toast this splendid image. Sad

The concept alone is fantastic. How you've imagerised it, even more so. Sometimes the best inspiration comes from the worst thing, huh? I hope it's not too late for your friend's son to pull away again.
