For Mum

By helenlinda
When my mum died in 2005 it was just a week before Mothering Sunday.
I felt lost without her and bought a card that she would have liked and wrote it for Dad to thank him for all he had done for her.
"I think today belongs to you" I wrote. Its a day for me to say "thank you" for all your love and care for my Mum through all the years, but especially the years since her stroke.
One of the little things that dad did was to put her earrings in in the morning and then take them out before she went to bed, leaving them on white paper on the table so that they would show up well the next morning.
Its the little things that we so easily forget or don't even notice. So when I saw these words on the pavement in Kings Heath last week I immediately thought that's going into my Mothering Sunday image.
Mothering Sunday is always a mixed bag of emotions - for some have not been able to become mothers, some have had poor relationships with their own mother. Others still are not fulfilled as mothers, or have recently lost them.
At church on Sunday there will be flowers for all females, mothers or not, so no one is excluded
If you still have a Mum, remember the little things that make her special to you.

Wonderful words that brought a lump to my throat when I read them, Helen. It is a sad time for those of us who have lost our mothers, but we must feed on the happy memories. Carol

A great tribute, and so lovely. It relates to women as it has connotations with the famous French head gear and symbol, and also the food. Clever and so beautiful.

I used to say to my boys if they were a little bit cheeky to me,
Remember boys "you can get as many wives as you like in your life,
But you only get one Mother Smile

Amen to the above.
I always get a card from Sarah addressed to Mummy Wooldridge, the postman must be used to it by now.
I don't do a card myself, since Mothering Sunday gave way to the card industry's creation of Mother's Day. But I received wonderful news yesterday - my mother who has been poorly is on the mend and thinks she'll be able to attend Sarah's wedding.

I sorted out my shell collection yesterday, and so was drawn to your image immediately, but your narrative was more engrossing and yes I do remember the little things my mother used to do and say, I remember her 365 days of the year, and miss her lots.
