Sweet Williams

By helenlinda
We spent a weekend in Locking in Somerset with our current Chinese Bible Study groups in June.
This was the 8th year that we have been welcomed by the members of the church and we stayed with a number of host families. It is a wonderful experience for the students, who are mostly here doing their Master's course for a year.
On Sunday morning we all attended the parish church and these were the welcoming flowers in the porch. Very simple, but lovely crisp clear colours. I often associate people with specific flowers, and my Dad always grew Sweet Williams, so I am reminded of him as I look at them. I have dliberately kept in part of the notice board surround as I really like the carving
Thanks for looking
Helen

Like the composition of this very much. Rather nice balance between carving and flowers. Do you know for many a long year Sweet William were called Stinking Billy in Scotland, as they are named for the Duke of Cumberland, in charge of the army at Culloden?

Dunno why Helen, but I think this has a right ''wedding'' look to it !!
I suppose it could be I prefer to see wedding pics without the bride, groom, best man, best maid, and anyone else that is at the wedding !!
Good shot.

This is gorgeous, and I agree the wood on the side really sets things off well. My gram grew sweet williams, too, and I finally got some to grow for me last year. I love their perfume.

Thanks Ray, Anne, Joline and Barbara- I'm staggered that this continues to get clicks. I haven't uploaded a flower image for ages, and its easy to forget how popular they are on this site

Thanks Brian - its not what you would expect in such a picture and I was half expecting to be shot down over it, but it seemed right to keep it in.
