Bluebells on Black

By hellsbells8868
Many thanks for c/c's on Follow Me.....

This is one from the Bluebells the other week, but against a black background.......i was aiming for lighting the flowers and not much of the more of the vase than i wanted but i had bigger issues with my so called black do you keep it black and not grey, blue or various other shades.....

The vase was about 10 inches from the background the lights i had a softbox to one side, quite far away and the umbrella light i was hanging above the flowers to get the light to it.....

Hi Helen

This is a lovely shot! Do you have any ambient or other lights on when taking the shot? You may find that another source of lighting is effecting your black backround. If not reduce your f stop to f12 while keeping you shutter speed to 1/125 and that should reduce the problems you are having.

Nowt wrong with this one Helen - I actually find the subtle shade of the vase really appealing!

Love the vibrancy of the blue flowers and the way the light highlights them. Rather a nice effect too the way the detail fades the lower you look in the image. Beautiful.

This is a real beauty Helen. Wonderful light, colours and textures. Can almost feel the smoothness of that beautifully toned vase in my hands.

Hi; I control my black background shot's by turning down the exposure compensation, by the way you have done a fine job with it here, what did you do to fix it.
Regards Don.

Providing it does not effect the main subject you can select the grey part of your background with the select black tool in Levels and it will change it to black

I have to agree with andy, not on the technical aspects. I just press a button. I think the vase looks incredible. Great light on the flowers too.

Great shot Helen, one of the tricks I use, is to keep the object 3 ft from the bg less chance of any light being captured, but its not always possible with some shots..
