The Refugee

An elderly Tibetan refugee, living in a refugee centre in northern India, knits handicrafts for a living. With a photograph of happier days on the wall behind her she must long to return to her homeland.

Nearby words of the Dalai Lama sum up much of our world today.

"We have bigger houses but smaller families;
More conveniences, but less time;
We have more degrees, but less sense;
More knowledge, but less judgement;
More experts, but more problems;
More medicines, but less healthiness;
We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbour.
We build more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever but have less communication.
We have become long on quantity, but short on quality.
These are times of fast foods but slow digestion;
Tall men but short character;
Steep profits but shallow relationships.
It’s a time when there is much in the window, but nothing in the room."

When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was good. When I viewed it I was right, when I went to f11 WOW.

You should be proud of this foto, it is superbly detailed a definite winner, have my award for this week

I've just come back so I'm a bit late finding this one.
I like the way there appears to be slight blur on the knitting needles suggesting she hardly slowed down for the photo.

It's another good environmental portrait from you. Any more in the pipe-line?
