That's quite a jumble of dark rocks........perhaps broken up into these blocks from the heat of the desert sun: makes an interesting study, esp. as captured with them set against the sky.

Fascinating. I love rocky outcrops and have taken lots os shots of them whilst here in Spain, but I have never seen black rocks like this before. Are they volcanic?

Very strange and interesting rocks.

They look very similar to the Basalt rocks we get here in Norther Ireland...at first I thought this was a mound of old tyres GrinGrin

fascinating insight into the southern hemisphere (as usual) GrinGrinGrin

Very interesting Ronnie - it makes me wonder what is over the top of the mound. Smile

Morning Herman, woke up to thick fog here so just hoping it will burn off later. Nice capture, I remember seeing these in Namibia, even in the middle of the desert there were black outcrops.

These rocks almost look like coal. This is an unusual capture Herman to
see these rocks among the grasses. Nice one….GrinGrinGrin

Fascinating geology, Herman. The black stuff may be a mineral coating. The geologic term for this is "desert varnish." Desert varnish forms when water dissolves the trace amounts of manganese and iron from a rock, then re-deposits it on the surfaces of the rock when the water evaporates in the desert heat.

I was going to ask, but I think the question has been answered; it looks as though some one has used these rocks for a camp fire and the black are sooty deposits. Nature is a fascinating creature.

Colleen has fog, I have rain and mist, so who has the summer then?

I know what this is Harman and it's a excellent shot, you were lucky to escape with your life this is a sleeping rock monster and if you get to near it all the rocks join up to a giant monster and slay you i know this because i saw them in the latest Hobbit film the other night so you have been warned Wink

Beautiful and interesting image, Herman !Maybe these black rocks are evidences of a very old volcano activity in the region but as an image they are making a beautiful contrast!

Some very rugged and inhospitable terrain which I wouldn't fancy walking on. A simple but superbly constructed landscape
