To set the scene........Bright autumn sunshine, this man had just finisherd an hour strimming tall weeds....he is someone I know so asked if I could take a quick portrait.......sans studio, sans flash and sans lighting.....hence the strong shadows:

The pic was inspored by the current publicity poster in the windows of all branches of ...Specsavers.....of a man with three day stubble.

Processed in CS3 via soft brushes and layers to rediscover all the tones and to apply selective sharpening:
