Brilliant Great spotted woodpecker image Cathy.
Beautiful
A lot of judges in camera clubs are not interested in " birds on a stick " these days. However they are guilty of not appreciating 1) the author has done a great job of siting the bird in the shot and it looks sharp, and with a blown out background. 2) The bird may be motionless for a second or two BUT is always using its eyesight and 3) The wonderful detail of the birds claws being created in such a way that they can grip branches perfectly. So all I can say is well done Cathy. David

I will agree with Cymru---- and add--- there are two sorts of bird images-- one--an exquisite portrait such as one would like to find in and id book-- and like the perfect on you have presented here! There is another variety that I also appreciate--- that is an excellent portrait showing something the bird is doing and part of his environment!

All worthy!
