I use my DSLR as a wonderful adjunct to my trekking / ski touring / travelling activities. If ever it gets a little arduous or boring, you are immediately refreshed by looking for THAT shot.

Maybe one day I will "mature" to the point where the photograph becomes the number one priority, and then I will aim for those wonderful, crisp shots in perfect light exhibited by some of you that take my breath away.

    I love this.
And I need to be educated ... what was the rationale for the high ISO and very fast shutter? It has obviously worked, and this learner would like to know why.

Thanks for the advice. It is much appreciated.

I thought the answer might lie with layers but was hoping for another answer. I have found layers confusing and have not mastered them, but I've always known that I'd have to get on top of them one day ... and that day has now arrived!!

I will get stuck into the task in the next day or so, and hopefully will emerge a better man ... and with the giraffe photo sorted.

Once again, thanks ... and Ill let you know how I get on.

Thanks to all of you for your encouragement. Once again a little rain offered some new opportunities.

I love the subject and the composition.

But the effect is a bit flat? Do you use Photoshop? I reckon if you hit this with Lighting and Exposure it might be stunning.

    Well done

It's lovely anyway, but the swirl of wash on the beach makes it sensational.
