Mountain Mirror

By hwatt
Rannoch Moor, Glencoe, Scotland.

I am a huge advocate of making the most of the circumstances available at the time of shooting. On this occasion there was a phenomenally good sky so unsurprisingly I wanted to make the best use of it that I could. The problem was the amount of ice covering the loch. I managed to find a ten foot section of unfrozen water which was just on the verge of freezing over and was consequently a near perfect mirror of the sky. This became my immediate foreground and the sky conveniently doubled up whilst raking light illuminated the bracken clad hills beyond.

Beautiful shot with a great sense of the wide open spaces. The sky is marvellous and you have managed to capture its reflection so well in the ice free area of water. And wishing you all the best for the festive season.
Ronnie.
