IGUANA

By IamDora
Mono version V1
These guys are huge; a good metre plus without the tail and the tail is as long as the body.

But they persist in crawling put on the flimsiest of branches. My cabina was under the iguana tree, so one bouncing off the roof was not unusual.

The unfortunate ones broke their necks in the fall. The others slid down the tin roof and onto the ground.

That's when you ran to close the door because sometimes one would stagger inside, whipping its powerful tail ( that it uses as a weapon) sending furniture flying; and you end up in an Errol Flynn type duel fending off the tail with the broom handle.

An iguana can detach its tail if it's caught and needs to get away. It then regenerates over time

The mono version reminds me, Dora, of some of Salgado's images in Genesis, the photos from the Galapagos Islands. This is a fabulous photo. I think I would narrowly choose the mono.

Oh, and the tail....what do you do with it when you grab the iguana by the tail and he leave without it in your hand? Your commentary is a stitch. I laughed all the way through it.

An excellent close up Dora. The lead for me.

There are worse things than heavy rain, and birds fighting on the ridge tiles, it appears...

Fascinating write-up, and rather sad, too.

I love the way that rather 'etchy' processing has brought out the textures and colours.

If you could have seen the size of that great hairy spider I found in the washroom this morning. I ran for the camera; landlady ran for the broom. The broom unfortunately was closer. But from the sum total of the disjointed parts, it could have been a zebra tarantula. No photo though Sad

My daughter's afraid of ordinary English fly-eating spiders. I rely on them to keep the housefly population in check...
