a little camera shake maybe. not as easy a shot as it looks with such a long lens. did you use a tripod?

Great stuff for astronomical work, perhaps a bit more contrast and sharpness

This was on the tripod when I took it, unfortunately, I'd not worked out how to use the timer yet since the camera is new to me Sad

so I'd manually pressed the button.

Either that or my unsharp mask and levels adjustment have made it look a little worse.

Love to know some more details Ian, I usually take at ISO 100 f8 at about 1/200th on a bright full moon, but use a cable release.
Great shot though of a tricky subject

I took this one using shutter priority at 1/640th. I checked the image, but it didn't give me the f number, so unsure of what it auto-detected at.

I've no idea what speed/setting I should take it on, but hopefully I'll get it right sometime. Any comments/ideas welcome.

A great shot and a strong hint of what this lens can do (I _really_ want one for my Pentax K10D but they're totally unavailable at the moment). Can I suggest that next time, you use the tripod and the self timer and, if it's available on the D40, use mirror lock up as well? Together they should eliminate the camera shake... Better luck next time Wink
