The Photoless Photo Blog

Day two of actively using ePhotoZine... and I thought it would be good to share some photography tips as my second blog posting. Then I discovered a problem.... there is no way to include images in the blog. Or at least no way that I have found to do it. I have searched the forum but drawn a blank.

Now, I am sure ePhotoZine have a very good reason for not alowing photos in the blogs. I just can't understand what that reason might be. It appears particularly perverse that a blog on a photography site doesn't permit images.

I know what I would like to do with my little bit of the blogosphere here at ePhotoZine... I'd like to use it to talk about photos I've taken, share some of the thinking behind the images. Sometimes that may form a mini tutorial other times it might be more practical points as it relates to a given photograph. Other times general observations from a days shooting.

I realise I could put a link in the blog to an image I want to talk about, and I might just have to do that, but it's not the same as having the image with the text. If nothing else once someone has clicked away from the blog page to look at the image they might not click back... I know I am that fickle!

Even if I did use a link where should the image be? The terms and conditions state I can't link to an image on a competitors website so that means I can't put the image on fl*ckr, some othe image hosting site. I am a professional photographer and linking to an image on my own site well that *might* be construde as comercial use which is also a no-no. I could link to one of my images here at ePhotoZine, but what if I'm trying to illustrate how NOT to do something (we all have our disaster images and the best thing you can do is just learn from them) do I really want to use my one daily upload to post that image? Of course not. So this might just have to remain the photoless photo blog.

With all that in mind I'll conclude this blog with two questions. One for the powers that be at ePhotoZine. Why can't we post images in the blog? The second question for the general readers of this blog. I'd like to use this space to offer hints and tips on photography (such as I am able to). Is there anything that is sensible to cover about photography that doesn't actually require images to do so?

Thanks for taking the time to read this,
Ian M Butterfield.

If you scroll right down to the bottom of the page, you can "Report Problem/Suggestion". I'm sure the guys-in-the-back-room will be able to help you! Smile

Personally, I'm glad there are no photographs in the blog area - I think it would be open to abuse here!

Ian,

If you want to share some tips / techniques with images as illustrations can I suggest you submit an Article for consideration by the Team.

Pete has asked many times for more contributions from members.

Probably like me they do not have the confidence to do so, perhaps you do ? Smile

Hi Ian,

We do have plans to implement photos into blogs in the near future. The main reason we don't have it yet is that we want to provide an easy, secure and organised way for everyone to upload photos into blogs.

Not to worry its on the way and very soon.

That is certainly something that I would consider doing but sharing tips via an article is a very different beast to sharing them via blog. In an artical the writer is seen to be the expert the person who *knows* the subject. In a blog the person is a diarist relating their experiences and sharing their views. An article is about stating facts a blog is about stating opinions. I believe there is a place for both... I also believe images are valid in both.

I have written articals in the past (but not for ePhotoZine) Perhaps I ought to dust down one or two of my past features and submit them.

Brilliant! If it is coming I won't bother doing what KarenFB suggests and posting a formal suggestion. Thanks.

We would be pleased to consider them
