SHEEP MAY SAFELY GRAZE

By Imagephotographics
Morning everyone !

Many thanks for your comments & clicks on yesterday's PINK BAY - most appreciated.

Today's image was taken again on Thursday, this was taken nearing the end of our long walk back after doing the coastal walk - we had had a few lovely hours of blue sky's with fluffy white clouds, then it went black and we made it back just before it poured down !

SKER HOUSE

I have used the title for this image which is an aria by J.S. Bach, which celebrates the faithfulness of a shepherd watching his flocks.

Built by monks on the windswept coast near Porthcawl, Sker House is a rambling, medieval building.

Made famous by Victorian novelist R.D. Blackmore (author of Lorna Doone) who spent much of his childhood at nearby Nottage Court and knew Sker well. When he heard a true story about the 'Maid of Sker' it inspired him to write about it - Elizabeth Williams, a young woman who was imprisoned there by her father in a room with blocked up windows. This to stop her intended elopement with harpist Thomas Evans of Newton, Nottage. She apparantly died of a broken heart.

I remember seeing a program on the TV about this - It is supposed to be one of the most haunted places in Wales.

It has always been a bit of a ''mystery'' Chris, how Blackmore came by the Scottish name of Lorna Doone.Normally, novelists base there characters on people or events from their past.As far as I know,he never went to Scotland.Perhaps it was a nice Scottish lass that served his ale up in his local pub ?
Good image. The quiet before the storm !!
