Old Gypsie Man

Celebrating Bradford's Gypsies and Travellers
Bradford's Gypsies, Roma and Traveller communities have come together for a special day of celebration aiming to give people in the city a better understanding of their history and culture. We've been finding out why they think it's important...
"Gypsies, Roma and Irish Travellers are an ethnic group. Why shouldn't our culture be part of history?" asks Violet Cannon, a Romany Gypsy in Bradford. "Why shouldn't we be proud of what we are instead of being ashamed all the time? Be proud to be a Gypsy, be proud to say I'm from a Romany family? Every other culture is, and the only time we'll ever get anything done is to stand up for our culture and say this is what we are and we are proud of it."

The true romany's are a wonderful breed of people, the 'travellers' give the romany's such a bad name. This is a superb set of images, Brian, very well portrayed. Carol

A great set, Brian, certainly given us plenty of images to view! The portrait in V1 really stands out though in this set, a cracking shot.

interesting range of expressions captured here, I think on the whole, that it would be worth considering mono conversions for them all, it would help to hold the series together, and although I can see the temptation to keep the colour, particularly of the wagon and its painted surround, mono would work for each of these. thanks for sharing and good to see such an initiative taking place, which may go some way to challenging some people's xenophobia
