Works well. I think the blue is very effective and the bars (as opposed to a full border) suits the subject. Red tends to get (over?) used probably because it's the colour the human eye is most sensitive to. Blue's good. CLICK.

Nice effect. Not sure of why though, why that colour, why that guy, why do it at all. Well, who says you need a reason.

Clever, I wouldn't have thought of matching the border to the guys jacket. click

A good effective use of selective colouring. This effect is so quick to learn that many people try it but use it so badly. The main reason to employ selective colouring is to bring emphasis to a part or parts of a photo. There is no confusing who the point of focus is in this picture. Simple and effective. Congratulations on your first EC.

IMHO this would be improved by cropping somewhere between the hard-hat, which I think is distracting, and the white striped jacket.

Personally I think the border is too heavy, as Fred says, I also think your selective colouring could have been done better and that the crop could be more effective possibly taking off a bit on the right. K.

I quite like this, I wasn't sure at first but you've done a good job. Original. I agree about the re-crop tho, the focal person is a bit central.

I dont understand why people are saying the selective colouring could have been done better... how?! He's coloured in the blue bit and nothing else and hasn't gone over the lines?!

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. The borders I doubled in size just before uploading so I agree with the comments. I also think the focal person is a bit central but this was the only section of real colour that stuck out. I also selected this person as everyone else was watching the football and this bloke was just talking to his mate. The original shot was very bland so I just tried to add a focal point, my main concern was that the grey and light blue wouldn't give a good contrast.
Thanks again

This was a great image to start with. I like the way you framed the two blokes chatting and so to pick one of them to highlight was a good idea. Like the angle, and the blue...but isn't that the Man City strip colour?!

Some people really make a mess of B&W with a spot of colour. But you have done it really well. Def' worth an EC award.
