I chanced upon this fly, struggling against the bonds of the spider's web. It was a hopeless struggle, so completely ensnared was he. I actually felt sorry for the fly, but it was too late anyway. The spider scurried down the web and injected it with venom. To my surprise the spider then carried the fly back to a shadowy corner (the larder I guess). The fly was about a centimetre long, the spider was only a quarter of the size of the fly, but he despatched his prey with consummate ease. I guess he's done it before? Nature is as cruel as it gets. It's just another link in the chain.
