Seeking shallow DOF and other more arty effects.

We all like to improve and find easy ways to do this, I’ve spent a week or two looking at kit based ideas to achieve some of the wants I have.

One is sharper images – the answer is better glass, no AA filter and also available now – better technique and processing.
Another is shallower DOF, the answer is bigger sensors and wider apertures and maybe lenses closer to the sensor with MFT(4/3) and new wide glass. However available now is my 70mm F2.8 and its had some quick results now it out of retirement. What's the future 6D or a new Mirrorless system yet from canon? Or even MFT with expensive glass. This is a hard one to call on a budget and not having to do it just yet.

The other main area was processing and I’m much more fluid with layers and masks now and seem to be getting interesting results with general whole layer effects, and small amounts of feature selection with masks.

I think I’m soon going to have to focus on a few fewer areas to really envisage a shot and then deliver on it as a sufficiently high quality.

All you need for shallow depth field is a macro lens focussed at its minimum distance on a non flat subject ! !
Even at f32 depth of field is minimal.
