Paradise travel, another day.

By JackAllTog
Another day is Paradise; traveling on Network Rail lines with Southwest Railways is always a challenges. Never Seats and trains are always late. All my life the promised improvements never made a difference.
I did like the leading parrallel lines here though.

Ah yes, South West Trains. They run Southampton Station...
Wednesday last we were there waiting for the 9.46 am Cross Country through train to Newcastle. At 9.35 there was a curt announcement that it has been cancelled. No more information, no advice as to what people should do... There aren't many through trains in the week...
Two different members of staff on the platform gave conflicting advice.
We were in the waiting room, adjoining the Station Supervisor's office. After a while the door opened and there was a young man seated at the desk, on his mobile phone.
I knocked at the open door and said 'Excuse me...' Without looking up he said 'Yorrite?'
I said 'Well no, actually, we're not all right. How do we get to Newcastle now?'
Still without looking up from his phone he said 'It's up to you'.
I said 'Couldn't you put out an announcement with some advice?'
He totally ignored me.
I won't describe the rest of the day in detail. It included a sardine tin on wheels, a signals failure at Banbury and a delay caused by a train stuck at Chester-Le-Street. We got back just under two hours late.
Rant over...
I like those lead lines leading to nowhere...

Hi Moira, its good to rant sometimes and let it out.

Sardines is a regular experience i'm afraid.
The behaviour of that 'Yorrite?' staff member is appalling - we have a similar girl in the ticket office in Woking she just won't acknowledge you until 'she' is ready. Sometimes also playing on her phone between customers.

Glad you made it home in the end.

Cheers

I do miss the daily commute....

A very well observed and captured shot of real life as it happens.

Woking station has changed. I used to ride the 7:17 AM from Farnborough to Waterloo (Calling a Woking, Surbiton and Clapham Junction) many, many years ago. Things might have been inefficient in those days but at least there was only one option - British Rail. The railway system had me totally confused during our visit to England a couple of years ago.

Less than two hours late Moira, I think they class that as 'on time'.

It'll all change after Brexit Wink

A good shot in mono, Stuart. The people and the lines look great.
