Dirty Moon in 2010

By JackAllTog
What I found most interesting was that the colour was all ready there on the moon, it just needed revealing.
The shot was taken through a sigma 70-300mm lens and a 2x TeleplusPro 300 on an EOS400D (CF x1.6) this gave an effective focal length of 960mm, Taken 1/1/2010 at about 8pm GMT.
F13 seemed to be the best aperture and 1/8th second was the closest to over exposure possible without clipping; over exposing allowed me to then under expose by almost 3 stops in photoshop elements, I understand sensors have more dynamic range at the brighter end so this technique will give the maximum dynamic range detail from one shot. The shot colouring was obtained mostly by increasing the vibrance, but also by contrast and saturation. Then cropping and curves were adjusted for detail with a final 100% 3 pixel sharpen.

Amazing detail. I noticed on New Years Eve that part of the full moon dissapeared for a while behind the Earths shadow! Had not expected it.
