Fine Example of Stone Masonry

By James_C
Good morning to you All,

Many thanks for your interest and support on my last offering. It was very interesting and has prompted me to rework thye picture. A special thanks here to Willie (banehawi) in this respect.

Today it is the turn of a very fine example of the stone mason's craft. It is on the central pillar of the aumbry in the Lady Chapel of Chichester Cathedral. An "Aumbry" is a cabinet, usually with doors, recessed into the wall, in which the reserved sacrement is stored in a Christian Church. I took this photograph a while back when the Lady Chapel was being restored.

V2 shows the whole aumbry (with accompanying scaffolding). The farther recess has it's doors. The nearer one's doors are on the floor.

V3 is a different crop of V1.

I hope you enjoy these. thank you for looking.

All the best,

PS Somebody on one of my earlier uploads mentioned that they were a stone mason. I can't for the life of me remember who, but this is for them.

What a fabulous piece. I am glad to hear it is being restored so it can be enjoyed by future generations of church goers.
