Main Alter - Peterborough Cathedral

By James_C
Good morning everyone.

The main alter of Peterborough Cathedral is situated in the nave between the choir and the main body of the cathedral. The high alter is used for special services and the main alter is used for "normal" Sunday services and the like. This photgraph is taken from the choir.

The painted wood ceiling over the nave is the largest in Europe and the only one of its type that survives in the UK. It dates back to 1230 - 1250 AD. In November 2001 it was literally witrhin seconds of being destroyed by fire caused by an arsonist. Thankfully it was spotted in time and the fire brigade managed to save it. The cathedral suffered serious damage but was able to stay open.

V1 and V2 are the same photgraph, but with slightly different processing. In V2 I have tried to bring out the ceiling a bit more.

Thank you for kind c+c on my last upload.m I hope you enjoy this one.

Have a good weekend.

James

V1 for me, I prefer not to see everything in bright detail, a view like this needs a bit of mystery.
Lovely composition, asymmetrical but balanced - that's something I appreciate.

Nice shot, not sure if I prefer one or two but I feel the bottom two inches are surplus to requirements.
Just my opinion of course.

Both very fine results. I rather like the slightly less bright V1 but it is good seeing the ceiling in brighter tones of V2.

I have a slight preference for v2. I would crop the floor considerably, though. I think that expanse of foreground doesn't enhance this image.

Very fine shot. I marginally prefer the treatment in V1. Charles.
