  • Bri at IVY - terrible thumbnail

The reason the thumbnail looks poor, is because the posing is poor. It takes very particular posing, not to mention entirely the correct body shape in order to be able to pose someone in profile, and this doesn't really work. In standing her sideways on, you've managed to make the model look very angular, you've not made the most of any curves that she might have and the single diffuse lightsource has actually managed to make her face look wider than it is

Whilst we're on the lighting: firstly, your highlights are blown, secondly, the disparity between the light at the front and the shadow at the back is too great and takes away from the image - you'd be significantly better off with a second lightsource. Finally, the skintones are totally out of whack - she has orange skin in places.

I'm sorry, this probably comes across as unduly harsh, however you bill yourself as an internationally published and award-winning photographer, so I'm sure that you don't mind a slightly sterner level of critique than an amateur would. It's just that I feel that so much more could have been made of this image had a little more thought have gone into it.

    Love it, yet again...

I really like the vibrancy and the contrast in this - reminds me of an old film shot. More than that, I love the connection between all of the subjects - that both of the girls are looking at the young man, and that he is looking down the camera. It pulls you through the image really nicely.
