Suilven Sunrise Wild Camping Inversion

By jamesgrant
Suilven is one of Scotland's finest mountains,. The remote peak is one of the most recognisable in the Assynt region and its profile beckons hillwalkers to go up it...Getting there is no easy feat, with a 12 mile round trip but you are well rewarded...However, camping on the mountain not only breaks up the walk but also allows you to be there at hours most would only dream of...I was fortunate to wake up to a completely unexpected cloud inversion where the cloud danced and moved around Suilven. An experience to never forget.

Fabulous. Is that your tent down there by the pool? If so, heaven knows what you pinned it into. It looks like sheer rock.I'm thinking a whale breaking the surface of the water.

Sure is mine! Luckily, there was a fair bit of grass to pitch on!

Fantastic shot that must have taken considerable effort ! Certainly, that region (the far NW of Scotland) is by far my favourite region of the UK as it is so wild, remote and inaccessable. Personally, I like the names of the various peaks ....Suilven, Canisp, Arkle, Fionaven.... they all sound very romantic !!!

Thanks! Yes a fair bit of effort but you soon forget about it when you're well rewarded Smile Yes it does feel wild and remote, a little less so each time I go but I'll never forget the first time I drove down to Stac Polliadh in the dark and wondered where on gods earth we were!
