Cheap as chips ! Amazed when I saw the price, but why not add 10 and include a lens good ?
Can't wait to see how it performs.

Just got the Sigma 56mm F1.4 for my M3. Seems like a well priced alternative to the Canon lenses, along with the other two new Sigma lenses, the 16mm and 30mm, both F1.4. They even include the lens hoods, Mr Canon !

So few 100mm ? Well it aint much longer than 85mm, so save money and get an F1.2 Canon or a F1.4.

Surely Canon have missed a major trick by not incorporating Image Stabilisation in the body ?

It was the major point I was expecting in the next Canon body.

Canon 1Ds was the FIRST full frame camera ! I still have an 1Ds Mkii. Here's the start of a review:

The EOS-1Ds is Canon's newest professional SLR. Based on the EOS-1D body the EOS-1Ds raises resolution to 11 megapixels, uses a CMOS sensor (just like the EOS-D30 and D60) and is the first Canon digital SLR with a sensor which captures a full 35 mm frame. (Source DPReview)

Surely the 1Ds was the first full frame Canon. Introduced end of 2002.

Hi there. Pictures of the lens on ebay show lever for shifting having a black cover, so perhaps yours was lost in handling ?

Just as a follow up, I'm pleased to say that objective has departed Deutschland today and should be with me on the 21st July. Waiting list apparently a lot smaller than supposed.

I already have a Canon 85mm on a Canon 1ds mkii and bokeh at f1.8 looks nothing like that which the Petzval [pronounced Petsfal] is capable of yielding.

I have allowed my wife to buy this for my birthday, so I hope it comes in a month or so,

The Waterhouse stops can be easily copied, either out of brass sheet or plastic sheeting, which a scroll / fret saw will easily handle. As for losing the stops, the top hole is screaming out for a piece of string to be attached, to act as a non-accidental separatory prevention device. A leather strap, as used in making bracelets or necklaces, offers a more elegant solution.

I foresee using the lens more for landscape, architecture and still life. Motor racing coverage is still under consideration.

Does one get free insurance to cover the eventuality of a discerning thief wacking ones napper and making off on his toes ? A scruffy ex Chinese army bag is less attractive to oiks, methinks.

Unfortunately you headline the price as 13.80 but later state around 40 - the latter is more accurate - around 35.00 on ebay.
