Hi and welcome to my world as I see it through my viewfinder.
As the world turns many things happen in the blink of an eye - a photograph is the permanent reminder of that moment.

You have some really lovely shots on your portfolio Jane, although I find several of them a little dark on my screen. I tend to take landscapes about 2/3 of a stop underexposed in order to get the depth of color but I adjust shadows, contrast and brightness in post processing. I have really enjoyed looking at your work. A

Took some time looking through your portfolio again, Jane, and I have to admire your landscape work. You have a good eye for composition and you tend to capture the scenes with fine detail and in very natural colours. A delightful volume of work....very well doen and keep it up.

Hi Jane
Thank you so much for the User Award, I was thrilled to bits to receive it. In the 2 months I have been on ePz, my pictures have improved a lot due to the kind encouragement of people like yourself. I can see from your PF that your images have also improved greatly in the time you have been on the site and I look forward to watching that improvement continue over the coming months. Thanks again.

You have some very nice, well composed landscapes in your PF that are certainly worth looking at. As for Elements just keep playing with it as that is the best way to learn. If you never try anything you never achieve anything. Andy

Quote:Oooh I like the way you frame your pictures that's lovely. Can I ask do you shoot against a black background? What do you use? Sorry I'm v, v new to this so I may be asking very stupid questions! But I'd love to know more about how you get such beautiful shots

Yes I shot this against a background of a black placemat !! In my kitchen with the ( natural ) light coming through the window from the left. It was handheld and the shooting info is as follows:

Shooting mode - A DEP
Shutter speed - 1/125 @ f8
Metering - centre weighted
Exposure Compensation - -2
ISO - 1600
Focal Length - 55mm

I'm new to this messing about with different settings on my camera, so this and the other images in this series are a bit "flukey" really. The Orton treatment is really easy to do - just Google "Orton Treatment" & you'll find loads of info on it and how to produce good results.
The frame is dead easy . I use Elements 4 and all I do is go to Image - resize , select resize canvas and from the drop down menu select "pixels" and input a value of around 6 or 7 for both width & height and then choose a complimentary colour from the swatch 'click OK.This will give you a small border around your image. Then do the same all over again but this time choosing black for the colour and a value of around 200 width and 250 height 'click Ok,this gives you the "large" border in which you can put the title of the image ( I use the same colour as the narrow border ) then all you have to is resize the image for uploading to EPZ. When uploading your image choose the black background and hey presto ! You've done it !! Smile

Thanks for the PF comment and vote.I'm dead chuffed as this is the first image of mine that's been chosen for the E2 Featured Photo Smile Smile

Lovely portfolio Jane. I know what you mean about becoming obsessive. As you say, it does help you learn - and, boy, do I have a lot to learn!

Thanks Andy I apppreciate your comment, I've become a bit of an obsessive I'm afraid but by being so,I reckon I can only learn from fellow EPZders and your PF is one I keep an eye on for inspiration.
