Sniffer Fly

By chase
My second one from an outing in the garden with a couple of flies.
They were quite accommodating, possibly too cold for them to object and the Spam buried in the Moss was probably irresistible. Wink
As far as the title goes, I thought that the one on the moss looked as though he was sniffing ( do flies sniff ? ) out the treat I had hidden, whilst his mate looked on.
I have always wondered...... where do flies go in the Winter ?

Taken in available daylight.

9 raw images focus stacked , sorted in Lightroom, stacked and finished with a tidy up crop, levels and sharpening in Photoshop.

Thanks for dropping by, so no more flies from me or is it on me Wink
Constructive critique and mods welcome.

Cracking stacking! You have good eyesight Janet. When I've done this, I nearly always seem to miss a bit SadGrin

Superb shot !!...impressive detail & the 'dew-drops' on these critters !!.Grin
Great detail and colour and thanks for your explanation on your technique. In general, flies detect odours by using their antennae, so it was probably 'sniffing' out the Spam. As to what they do in winter, it depends on the species - some hide away in crevices somewhere and others die off, thankfully!
