I agree that the image makes a good mono, but for me it loses the magic that the colour brought to it. Black and white seems a little menacing, somewhat creepy, which isn't a criticism, that's just the way it feels to me, and it's the magic that I enjoyed.

It is a beautiful mono image. I think the light and the water are better but overall perhaps not quite so magical.

It makes a very good migration to the world of b&w, Jason, but I feel the colour one has more depth and also more detail in the reflections.

For me the black and white Jason. The shaft of light provides a dramatic contrast with the inky blackness around the rock in the foreground. Excellent shot.

Looked more atmospheric and somehow calmer in colour. Nothing wrong with the way you've converted it, the separation isn't there to make it a mono image. IMHO.
